Ive seen a few people getting frustrated with all the #ALSIceBucketChallenge posts. They seem to be around either (1) frustration with the core idea that you do the challenge OR donate or (2) its filling up their news feed and theyre tired of seeing it. To the first, I hear you. Though the vast majority of people Ive seen have claimed that they are doing both, and the fact that the ALS association has reported receiving $1.35 million in donations since the end of July (vs $22,000 last year in the same time) would support that. I also know I, and several others, donated to other research or support orgs and those arent even being counted in that amount yet. Even without a donation, though, awareness is important. So, hopefully that makes people feel better about the movement and a little less upset by seeing it so much. To the second, Id recommend either not going on Facebook for a few days...maybe a week tops. Guaranteed this movement wont last as long as the endless posts whenever some sports team is in some sort of playoffs. Or, maybe you could reply to those who dont say that theyre donating and ask them to do so? Or, even turn it into a positive, and add up all the posts you see that were annoying you and make a donation for that amount in dollars. Could make it a lot more positive than just stewing every time you log into the Facebook machine. Also, Ill be on vacation next week and will be sure to post some selfies and maybe even a workout picture or two. So, if you do sign off for a while, youll have that to look forward to when you get back.
