Ive seen a few things on Facebook about guns, and some statistics. - TopicsExpress

Ive seen a few things on Facebook about guns, and some statistics. Math having been mentioned, I feel compelled to share some of my responses. Mass killings havent increased in frequency since 1976. Am I supposed to take comfort in the fact that its always been this bad? Because I dont. Id also like to point out that total fatalities of mass shootings does seem to be climbing. Violent crime in the US has been dropping for 20 years. Yeah, and weve still got the homicide rate of a third world country. We have more killings per capita than Niger, Yemen, Ukraine, and Cuba to name just a few. We have FIVE TIMES the murder rate of South Korea, Italy, Austria, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Germany, Japan, etc, etc, etc. And those arent gun deaths, theyre all homicides. There seems to be something inherently better about the way other countries deal with this sort of thing. And as for the bullet proof blankets, bullet proof backpacks, and ingenious devices to lock a classroom door, yeah, why fix the problem when we can just throw half-assed hacks at the symptoms? Probably because weve convinced ourselves we cant do what every other civilized country already has. theonion/articles/no-way-to-prevent-this-says-only-nation-where-this,36131/
