Ive seen a lot of posters, flyers and billboards around Bristol recently, advertising Noahs Ark Zoo, where you have the opportunity to experience natures greatest animals. The reality is that youre not experiencing shit, youre merely participating and supporting the sustained and continued exploitation of non-human beings for the purposes of profit and alleged entertainment. Every time you visit a zoo or a circus which uses animals in its shows, you are actively condoning the imprisonment and abuse of those animals. The reason why its such a spectacle (and £20 a ticket) so see giraffes, elephants and many other non-native species is for the very reason that they arent native; they have either been kidnapped or bred in captivity. There are countless examples of animals in zoos and circuses turning on their human captors, and it is hard to suggest that they were not aware of the consequences and the fate that would befall them. The video below is probably one of the most haunting things I have ever seen and if there was ever a reason to reject the inherent speciesism within a carnist society, avoiding human and non-human bloodshed such as this below might be it.
