Ive seen several wolverines in Alaska over the years, but this fall, for this first time, I had a hunter take one of these restless predators. A solitary animal, wolverines can and will kill moose, caribou, and Dall sheep on down the line to mice and voles. This male weighed 30-35 which is probably about an average male. I was astounded by the incredibly sturdy bone structure of such a small animal; its no wonder they are so fearless. While skinning, this rookie wolverine guide punctured the anal scent gland. The scent was very potent, every bit as strong as a skunks, undoubtedly used to mark their territory from other males and attract/signal to females. It would be fascinating and educational to spend a few winters trapping these amazing animals. billymollsadventures
