Ive seen the most ticks this year in my 16 years of grooming. Here is a recipe that I posted earlier. One for your dog and one for humans. Inexpensive and easy to make. You can also purchase Rose Geranium essential oil at a local health food store, put a few drops on your hands, rub your hands together and then rub all over your dog, especially on the under belly area. This will also keep the ticks and fleas off your dog. Repellent for your pets: For pets, add 1 cup of water to a spray bottle, followed by 2 cups of distilled white vinegar. Ticks hate the smell and taste of vinegar, and will be easily be repelled by this ingredient alone. Then, add two spoonfuls of vegetable or almond oil, which both contain sulphur (another natural tick repellent). Repellent for Humans: Citrus scents also ward off ticks, and a citrus repellent can be easily made for just a few dollars. Bring 3 cups of water to a boil, then add a few sliced citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits--any combination will do). Let boil for one minute, then simmer on low heat for an hour. Take out the sliced fruits, and pour the remaining mixture through a strainer. Pour into a spray bottle, and spray directly onto clothing, pets and lawn. The acidic scent of citrus fruits works to repel both ticks and fleas, keeping your family free of these blood-sucking insects.
