Ive seen this before and I agree that this approach was threatening and got the predictable results. I am not a dog trainer but have enough sense to know that if you want to modify behavior in a dog you must first earn their trust and work on their fear. You cannot intimidate a dog into trusting you any more than you would be able to intimidate a person. Intimidation equals a fear response. No good thing will come of it.
