Ive shared openly about living with severe chronic illness. One of the more difficult struggles of my illnesses is that it is an invisible illness. I dont look sick. Because of my age if I use assistive devices of any kind, I am questioned. I have a doctor who asks me every time I see them why I havent brought in my form for a handicapped parking sticker, because that will give me back some of my independence. Thats what assistive devices do for people who are disabled. The reason I dont have a sticker? Is because the majority of people in this world and their ignorance of invisible and chronic illness. Their immediate assumption that were faking it because were young or arent in a wheelchair. To the point of vandalism and harassment of our property and our person. So what if there are people who scam the system? There will always be somebody that does that. It literally takes you one phone call to the police to report it if you think somebody is using it incorrectly, but no...most feel they need to take it into their own hands. Even though the majority of the time they are wrong. Disability doesnt have a look to it and it doesnt have an age limit and its time people understood that. So to do my part, throughout this week I will be posting pictures of support of all those who live with invisible illness and disabilities.
