Ive slowly been transitioning away from Adobe products because first off, I refuse to be locked into the kind of situation they have created. Dont get me wrong- Its a great business model as a perpetual money maker for them. Lightroom is too limited for my uses and since Adobe has come out with Lightroom for the iPad but it requires a subscription to their Creative Cloud, I also can only image that sooner or later Lightroom will be part of it as well. I dont trust Adobe and their lax security- Over 15 million accounts hacked last year and they tried to downplay it. For about the past two years Ive been getting increasingly comfortable with Capture One Professional for many reasons. 1: Its full on editing capabilities. 2: It works, without drama, without any worries about the next security breach. 3: Their Capture Pilot app. When Im shooting tethered, I can have my iPad right next to my camera and through Capture Pilot I can not only see what I just shot, but I can change my camera settings and trigger it. Capture Pilot also give a photographer the ability to hand an iPad to a client and they can see the images as they are shot, and even rate them via a selection of star icons. I also use the OnOne Perfect Photo Suite, because it does everything that I need from the Nik software suite, but as a stand-alone product. Ill be looking at the latest from Alien Skin, due out in May which will also work outside of anything Adobe. None of what Im saying here is anything more than offering up an alternative to those who feel like I do, and have lost considerable faith in Adobe.
