Ive spent 1.5 years in therapy for major depression, and took a class in clinical psychology last semester. Ive noticed that people without diagnosed mental disorders display disordered thinking- I didnt get an internship this summer, so Im a failure. or I failed that test because I just cant understand mathI think psychotherapy can help improve an individuals ability to develop healthy relationships with others and manage stress, even if they dont meet the diagnostic criteria for a mental disorder. I think everyone could benefit from having a safe place to discuss major life events with someone trained to actively listen. I think the idea that therapy should be reserved for crazy people is harmful. If access to therapy was widespread, things like child abuse and domestic violence would likely decrease.Mandatory talk therapy would be pretty impossible to actually implement, but Im more curious about whether anyone disagrees with the premise itselfHello, users of CMV!
