Ive spoken to of few of you individually and told you what I wanted to do with this years event. I think its great that we all get together for a day (reminisce, and play a little ball) but I believe we can use this platform for something greater than our own personal scrapbook or war stories. Ive decided to use this event to help a fellow Montgomery County Alumni Basketball Player (Damone Brooks- Springbrook High School & Metro City Players, AAU). For those of who do not know Damon heres some information on Damone Brooks: Damone Brooks (better known as Damon Brooks), lived a very active life prior to his recent spinal cord injury. At the young age of 19, Damones life has changed forever. Following his accident, he was diagnosed as a level C4- C5 quadriplegic, and has been hospitalized at University of Maryland Medical Center since April 20, 2012. He was told he would never walk again. Damon graduated from Springbrook High School and currently attends Goucher College. Damon has always enjoyed playing basketball, and has dreams of making it big. Prior to the accident, Damon was finishing up his freshman year at school and preparing himself for the upcoming basketball season. In spite of the many struggles that he faces, Damon remains hopeful that he will be able to return to a productive life in the community through the support of family and friends. Damon is planning to enter an intensive therapy program that will strengthen his body and help him regain some additional function in his arms and hands. This therapy is extremely expensive. To help with the cost of these uninsured medical expenses, specialized equipment and recovery based therapies, a fundraising campaign in Damones honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. In 2000, they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only. Please consider making a donation:For more information, please contact HelpHOPELive at 800.642.8399. WE The Montgomery County Alumni Basketball Association, (I just made that up) LOL. But nonetheless we will get together and play a basketball tournament in Damones honor. We have 9 County teams participating in this years event and some great whos who are giving back to see this event through. (Paint Branch, Blair, Kennedy, Magruder, BCC, Seneca Valley, Quince Orchard, Albert Einstein, and Watkins Mill). I will charge $1 entry fee & there will be donation boxes in the facility (ALL PROCEEDS will go towards Damons family). Please BLAST this information on your own personal facebook pages to get this information out. DC Legend Stacy Robinson- will be the Master of Ceremony (play by play) It also looks like WPGC will give this some attention as well. Working on the finishing touches on a few things but it should be a lot of fun. Looking forward to seeing you all & Thanks in advance. Yours in Hoops, Riley
