Ive taken a number of phone calls since posting the eAlert - TopicsExpress

Ive taken a number of phone calls since posting the eAlert regarding the State Street incident this afternoon, and appreciate the kind words from everyone. Many have also expressed an interest in better understanding just how bad the NOPD manpower issue really is, and what may be done to remedy the situation. Since todays State Street eAlert (whereby we posted how a small team of 2nd Dist officers had to search for the perp without the aid of requested NOPD k9 tactical support, and had to eventually give up the search to handle a growing backlog of 911 calls for service that were going unanswered), we have also posted about an incident whereby a woman was reportedly hiding in a bathroom after fleeing a male attacker whereby no units were available to respond. In effort to help everyone better understand the gravity of the situation, I am now making public the latest entry into our NOPD ERROR Log, whereby an 8yo child was reportedly inappropriately touched by a man with a knife... with no units available to respond (Ill post our actual ERROR Log entry via the comments section below). The bad guys already know how short the NOPD is... because they see how long it takes for units to respond to an emergency and are actively taking advantage of the fact. My grave concern is that as the NOPDs ranks will likely soon fall below 1000 officers due to attrition, our citys crime problem will greatly worsen. For the safety of all, citizens and officers alike, we need to work together to resolve this greatly worsening crisis. The examples Ive listed are only some that weve heard in the past few hours. Compounding the critical NOPD manpower shortage is the fact that NOPD detectives no longer get overtime pay and are often sent home while in the middle of working cases... we run into this frequently when assisting detectives with ProjectNOLA crime camera footage. So what may be done to possibly remedy the situation? Lets discuss it together below via comments.
