Ive told the story of the heated argument between Don Henley and Bruce Hornsby during the middle of the night rehearsals for Their Farm a Aid performance in 1990. Don wanted a Grand Piano on the stage while Bruce insisted that an electric piano would sound better for the venue. I was sitting on a road case on stage just feet away. Henley finally got so frustrated that he stormed off (Bruce never lost his cool). Here is that performance, notice that Bruce is sitting behind his Korg electric piano, so its kind of obvious who won. One of the days Ill get around to digitizing some of those photos - got some great ones of this song. Ive never felt the same about Don Henley since that night. But personal feelings aside, he has done some wonderful music (although Ive always considered this a Hornsby song). I also remember that there many celebrities there who would take on various emcee roles, introducing different artists. Dick Clark had his hands full producing the 11 hour live show for TNN (later a 3 hour special on CBS), but Henley insisted that Dick Clark introduce him, which necessitated Mr. Clark coming down from the Production booth, just for the intro and then right back up. I had a client request Don Henley one time and went through hell to get him, jumping through all kinds of hoops, including yet another senseless request for a grand piano - which would have been near impossible considering the room and access. After 3 months of negotiations and finally agreeing on the rider requirements and money - just insanity that people never see. He cancelled because of having to reschedule some Eagles shows (Thank God!) Anyway, heres that particular performance, still a great song! Don Henley - The End of Innocence (Live at Farm Aid)
