Ive trained BJJ for over 10 years. Ive competed at every level and been very successful when I did. Ive learned so much in the last year. Probably more then any previous years. I learned what this great art is all about. I learned that wearing that belt around your waist needs to mean something and most importantly represent who and what you are in your journey. Ive also learned how blind I was for so many years. I have trained my ass off. Ive never taken time off. Ive trained through injuries. Ive left my family and put all I have into this. Ive basically trained every day to get better and prove that I earned my rank. I still do this at the age of 43. And that is also with strength and conditioning 5 days a week as well as teaching BJJ. That being said my goal has never been anything less then becoming a black belt someday. And I dont care if it takes me another 10 years to do it. The one dark side of BJJ is the politics. And more importantly the handing out of promotions to people who in no way shape or form deserve it. Whats most disturbing are the professors that do it. But I think whats even worse are the ones that except them knowing they havent put the time in. They are the same people that say one thing and do another. Why? Because we all know how hard it used to be to attain a black belt. But what it seems happens today is you just have to be the flavor of the month. Or the next best friend or maybe you have money? Who knows ? But all I do know is that I will continue to do what Im doing because Im my heart and in the eyes of my team and professor but most importantly to the BJJ community it will be legitimate. In closing Rafael Formiga Barbosa dont ever promote me again until I deserve it. I never want to be that guy that anyone questions. I would rather start all over again. Everyone enjoy your evening and God bless.....
