Ive visited the USS Midway several times over the years being from Arizona and had the honor of taking my late father on a tour a number of years back now, an old WW2 Destroyer Boatswains Mate. I also had the great fortune of meeting up with several old buddies from VF151 in 2005 for a tour, our Bull-S%#* prompted many of the ear phone tourists to pull them off and listen to whatever load of dung we were slinging, good times! However, we were up in the Forecastle where we had to stand squadron inspections and receive whatever awards were coming (mostly medals for whoever stayed out the brig longest!). Not sure why that spurred the conversation, but one of our group wondered openly as to how much contraband must have been found by the ship restoration crews in the overheads, crawl-spaces, cable-chases and piping clusters….and how much remains even today! Okay, my time was in the later 70s, so Im hoping Im not breaking any pristine or virgin beliefs today of what life was for a sailor, Im pretty sure I’m on safe ground, but my apologies to any others. This old pen is well over 35 years old, the ink dried out long ago, but I keep it around just in case….. I havent used a Government Pen for anything other than poor penmanship in too many years now to remember, but on the Midway (Atsugi, Cubi, Misawa, Pattaya, Mombasa, Perth, Pusan, Qwang-Ju, Saesebo, Hong Kong, Mirarmar….?), they served a purpose. ): Let me show you a couple of pics to spur a memory or two!
