The Muslim Community in Iwoland, State of Osun has denied its alleged endorsement of Senator Iyiola Omisore for the governorship race in 2014. Dissociating itself from a newspaper report that the community has endorsed Omisore, the community said that the report on the purported endorsement at an Islamic gathering organised by the National Council for Islamic Affairs in Iwoland, was a blatant lie. Addressing journalists in Iwo on Monday, the Chief Imam of Iwoland, Sheik Mudasiru Ajao Akinlade who frowned at the newspaper report described it as a political gimmick which was planned to score political points. He said that neither he nor the entire muslim community has at anytime endorsed Omisore or any other candidate against the present government in the state. According to the Chief Imam, “I did not at any point in time endorsed any Omisore and no Muslim community in Iwoland endorse him. “I am not a politician, but I am a father of all politicians. I was invited, just as Omisore was invited to the programme. What we read in the newSpaper that I endorsed Omisore was a blatant lie”, he said Chief Imam Iwo, Alhaji Mudasiru Akinlade Chief Imam Iwo, Alhaji Mudasiru Akinlade The cleric said that he was only invited to the gathering, but left the venue of the programme alongside his team when it was discovered that the event was turning to political gathering. He added that the only thing he had with Omisore on the said day was that the former senator came to greet him when he arrived the venue of the programme. The cleric then warned that whoever that wants to play politics should desist from using his name for scoring political points, saying that he is never a politician and will never endorse any aspirant against the present administration in the state. In his contribution, the Secretary to the League of Imam and Alfas in Iwoland, Alhaji Tajudeen Ayegbami said, the Chief Iman and his team were invited to Eid El Fitr celebration to add colour to the event, but was not aware that politicians were also invited to the occasion. While describing the newspaper’s report as misinformation and misrepresentation of what actually transpired at the occasion, he said that they have never endorsed any governorship aspirant and warned those behind the report not to rob-off the Chief Imam of his untainted personality.
