Izala leader dies of hypertension Category: News Published on Thursday, 31 March 2011 01:06 Share Prominent Zaria-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Imam Ikara, died yesterday after a brief illness. Sheikh Ikara was the Deputy National Chairman of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bidi’a Wa’iqamatis Sunna (JIBWIS). Before his death, he was one of the national preachers of JIBWIS and conducted the annual Ramadan Tafsir (Qur’an Commentary) at his home town in Ikara, Ikara Local Government of Kaduna State. Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, Sheikh Yusuf Sambo Rigachikwun, the National Chairman of JIBWIS, said he was with the deceased in Abuja on Monday, March 28 when he suddenly collapsed. “The former governor of Bauchi State, Adamu Mu’azu and I were with the deceased after we said our Zuhr and Asr prayers. We were exchanging banters when he just collapsed. I was close to him. I thought he was either joking or that he just slipped. On close look however, I noticed foam coming from his mouth and his eyes changed. We then rushed him to the Abuja Clinic. After the necessary examinations they confirmed that it was hypertension and diabetes attack. The deceased knew that he had hypertension but for diabetes he was not aware of it. Doctors at the Abuja Clinic referred us to the National Hospital, Abuja on Tuesday after realising that they could not handle the situation. The doctors at the National Hospital said because of the chronic nature of the hypertension and diabetes we had to take him abroad for proper treatment. Preparations were in top gear to take him abroad when Sheikh Ikara died yesterday afternoon at around 1 pm,” Sheikh Rigachikwun said. The funeral prayer for the cleric was observed yesterday at his hometown, Ikara. Aged 59, Sheikh Ikara’s last public outing was on Friday, March 25 in Zaria during the JIBWIS national preaching which took place at the palace of the Emir of Zazzau. Sheikh Ikara left behind three wives, many children and relatives. ALLAH YA JIKAN MALAM
