I’m always missing you Goffy. 1963: Goffman published Stigma: Notes on the Management of Spoiled Identity. 50 years. Sociologists & Marxists saying the point isn’t just to study the world: The point is to change it. Perhaps today any ‘spoiled identity peg’ is going to get a Reality Show. Titles like: Truckers who can’t stop farting; Rapists who think they’re funny; Politicians who eat babies. What is a ruined person anymore but something to video and weave commercials into. Failure & flaw are conditions for which a perfect product awaits. An intervention made spectacle. My everyday everywhere is micro-aggressed upon by: barbarians, religious freaks, Cultism of corporate monstrosity, incessant displays of plasticized breasts and dough boy brains. Canada: the kinder gentler place with maple syrup values, pristine landscapes – Goffman was one of our most famous exports. It is probable I’ve read everything he ever published. What would you write about now, Goffy, that the Asylum is our everywhere & there are no doors from which to exit. Si Transken
