“I’m incredibly saddened by the loss of my dear friend and mentor Peter Szego. His passing is a deep loss to me, as well as the community he served so valiantly till his last day. Peters story is an inspiration not only to me but to so many in Silicon Valley. Peter and his family fled Nazi Germany to avoid persecution. He dedicated his entire life to fighting for what he knew was right. Whether it was advocating for equal pay, fighting to end discrimination, protecting social security, or extending health care to all–Peter left his mark on all the great progressive causes of our time. I learned so much from Peter, and his longtime partner Lee Sturtevant, during their time with us. They passed on to me their unshakable promise to fight for the underrepresented, to champion what was just, and to empower those who wanted their voices heard. I am going to miss Peter’s gentle nod and smile when he agreed with what I had to say. I know Peter and Lee’s guidance, counsel, and presence will always be with me.”
