I’m not aware that the transition committee has met yet to begin - TopicsExpress

I’m not aware that the transition committee has met yet to begin details on transitioning the grades. There are several concerns which I have thought of and would like to begin a discussion of your thoughts with the proposed grade transition. Some of my concerns: 1. I believe that the high school will not sufficiently hold the additional students and that the block schedule stability will once again be questioned by administration. Teachers are using their in-service to visit other schools on 9/29 which has grades 9-12 to get an idea of the transition but none of those sites are on the block schedule. 2. There will be teachers moving at every building in this district so what happens to the instructional items which have been received by grants, PTA funds, Donors Chose, etc.? Who will determine which items stay by building and which items can go with a teacher to a different building? Is there an oversight committee to help with this? 3. Past transitions have not gone as planned. The transition to the Kicker building still has not been completed to date, so how can we be reassured that a transition of this magnitude will be successful over the summer? 4. The spring discussions and board vote for realignment was rushed through and justified by Dr. Caine because the committee needed to begin planning. It is now the middle of September and the big committee has not met. Is this another indication of how little the stakeholders will be a part of this major transition? 5. The school board admitted last month that they are currently running on limited custodial services and maintenance crews. If they are currently running on limited numbers, then who will be moving all of the items from each building for each teacher and grade level? There is furniture, library books, textbooks, computers, etc. that will also have to be moved in addition to classrooms. I fear it will ultimately fall on each teacher to move their classrooms. Teachers in each building are already resorting to painting their own classrooms during the summer. Will they now have the moving as well? If the district plans to hire temporary staff to help then what is the total cost estimate to conduct this transition? What are your concerns?
