I’m reading the speculations pursuant to Attorney General Eric Holder’s seemingly sudden decision to resign his position. They range from speculation about his health to his low approval rating to his becoming too much of a liability for Obama to keep around. I disagree with those thoughts. Another speculative thought is that Holder wants to leave immediately because he fears being locked into the rest of Obama’s term. I disagree with that also. And I certainly disagree with the idea that he’s going to be prosecuted for Fast and Furious and is thus being jettisoned to protect Obama. I disagree with that idea because, if he were going to be prosecuted and there would the be potential for splash back on the Oval Office, Obama could simply place Holder under the White House protective umbrella. Not to mention that John Boehner would be expected to work no less diligently to ensure Holder is never prosecuted than he did during the previous rounds Congressional investigations into Holder’s role in Fast and Furious. I also doubt Holder is leaving because he doesn’t want to be locked into the rest of Obama’s term. Obama has approximately two years left in his term. Holder has been a government lawyer since the Clinton administration, in which he was Deputy Attorney General. It’s what he is and what he does. He has shown no desire to leave before this, so why bail now when there is approximately a year left? At present, I see a couple possible explanations for his resigning at this time. The first has to do with Bob Beckel’s glib, yet matter-of-fact comment that the Democrats have an October surprise in store for Republicans. Obama’s goal of “fundamentally transforming America” has never changed and I believe Holder plays an integral role in Obama’s accomplishing same................
