I’m really tired of “relationship gurus” who publicly prey - TopicsExpress

I’m really tired of “relationship gurus” who publicly prey on single, successful women as if they are doomed or miserable without a man, and need help or “fixing. Last night I posted a celebration of a former client being featured on a major (major!) TV show and wanted to share the segment with my followers. And one comment was (verbatim): Congrats to [your friend] -- but looks like shes super successful, but still single. Ill help her, send her over to me [love “guru” website here].” Blech! Yes, I’ll send her right away. I am all for love and family, and it’s changed my life, but this is someone’s private business. Marketing in this way is gross. First, how do you know what is going on in someones personal life anyway? Most smart business people keep their romantic life private (and this friend smartly does). Second, this approach is obnoxious and is similar to posting something publicly like “Congrats to your friend but she’s fat — send her to me and i’ll help her lose weight” or “Congrats to your friend but I hear she’s a nut job — send her to me and i’ll give her therapy”, etc. And I notice this is mostly women targeting other women. If you wouldn’t say it to someones face in front of other people, don’t say it on a public page. Facebook is a great place to make connections that can turn into clients, but this is not the way to do it. (And if you *are* looking for sage love advice, I do suggest my longtime friend Kathryn Alice. She is brilliant, super sweet, isn’t a social media single stalker. kathrynalice)
