I’m starting a new thread to focus on ideas which have begun to be explored on another thread. The primary idea is for CA to initiate a grass roots movement to run in parallel with the Shared Conversations, involving many more people in a process of conversation and learning, with proper inclusive LGBGTI and straight involvement. The suggestion was to ask if anyone is interested in (a) running a grass-roots event, (b) would appreciate some training and / or (c) hosting one or the other? Before we initiate anything, this group needs some information. Firstly, in Changing Attitude, new initiatives are agreed by the trustees and never my me alone, so the idea would have to be worked up and put to them. Secondly, I and we need to wait for the LGBGTI Anglican Coalition meeting on Saturday. David Porter is coming to meet the group in the morning and we hope to learn a lot more about the Shared Conversations including, I hope, practical details. I also hope there will be an opportunity to feedback reactions and comments to him so that we might have some impact on what is being proposed. Thirdly, the Coalition is going to consider a proposal presented by the CA trustees and worked up by the co-chairs, Simon Sarmiento and Keith Sharpe. The proposal is to form a new Action sub-group of the Coalition to recommend a strategic framework and take action on behalf of the Coalition to achieve policy objectives. There will be a better description once the group has met for the first time. A first meeting of a committee of 12 is proposed for January. Finally, there’s the question of funding. Changing Attitude’s income is declining. The trustees don’t want to embark on a major fund raising initiative until they have greater clarity about what activities we need to focus on in the future. Whatever the future holds, if we are to continue to be as active as we are at the moment, we urgently need an injection of financial support. We are living at a time of rapid change and many people are frustrated and angry and impatient for change in the church. To translate this anger and frustration into positive, creative, effective action, I have no doubt that our organisations are going to need an injection of finance. This group is the largest resource CA has, in addition to our very effective local groups, now few in number. The future really is going to depend on those members of this group with financial resources (because many live in poverty) making a financial commitment to enable our work to flourish and transform the Church.
