I’m writing on behalf of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists to cordially invite you to the very first Latino forum in the race for Long Beach Mayor. Latinos account for 40% of the population in the 2nd largest city in Los Angeles county. NAHJ, the Museum of Latin American Art and NBC4 want to provide a platform for Latinos to question the candidates. It will be held Sunday March 23rd at MOLAA, 628 Alamitos Ave. between 2-4pm. MORE DETAILS: The Los Angeles chapter of NAHJ will present the Long Beach Mayoral Forum on Sunday, March 23rd with a focus on Latino and city issues in the second largest city in Los Angeles county. A panel of journalists will interview mayoral candidates to learn about their views on issues of particular importance to Latino voters, which represent 40.3% of city residents. The journalists are: • Zamná Ávila, NAHJ-LA member and Random Length News; • Rachel Uranga, NAHJ member and Los Angeles News Group/Press-Telegram; • Andrea Sulsona, Palacio De Long Beach Magazine; • Hetty Chang, NBC4 South Bay Reporter • Dunia Elvir, Telemundo 52 Presentadora de “Noticiero Telemundo 52 Buenos Días Los Ángeles” 5 candidates have confirmed their attendance. They are: • Damon Dunn, American politician, minister, and retired football player • Robert Garcia, Long Beach Vice Mayor • Bonnie Lowentahl, California Assembly member, 70th • Doug Otto, co-founder of Long Beach Heritage, former chair of Long Beach Planning Commission • Gerrie Schipske, Long Beach City Councilwoman The forum is open to the public and will be held at 2:30 p.m. at MOLAA, 628 Alamitos Ave. The forum will be moderated by Mekahlo Medina, the national Vice President of the NAHJ and NBC4 reporter. NBC4, part of Comcast NBCUniversal (NAHJ Sponsor), is sponsoring the event along with the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach.
