I’m writing to tell about my involvement with the online newspaper The Vancouver Observer to cover the story of developing the Alberta tar sands. Two years ago I met Linda Solomon, a journalist who started the online newspaper The Vancouver Observer. It was her opinion that the story of developing the Alberta tar sands was not being covered sufficiently, and that the Canadian public was not sufficiently informed about it while the conservative government was pushing an agenda to develop the tar sands. She felt urgency to cover the story before the next phase of tar sand development was enacted. The Northern Gateway pipeline is a proposed pipeline from Northern Alberta through Northern British Columbia so tar sand, called bitumen, could be moved by pipe then loaded on to tankers and refined in China.
