I’ve been thinking about bad habits. We all have them. Just as we all struggle with things we’d like to change about ourselves, and which seem always just that little bit out of reach. Personally I’d like to lose ten kilos (around twenty-two pounds). But my peripatetic lifestyle - and the fact that I am out and about so often - means that I am less inclined to impose the necessary discipline needed to rid myself of this extra weight. I do work out six days a week - and ten kilos is not a massive number. But it vexes me that, for all my creative and organizational discipline, I still have yet to shift the necessary weight - a task that would take one month or so. Of course we all grapple with our shortcomings, our inability to achieve certain goals. Just as we often deride ourselves for laziness or an inability to move beyond certain blockages. These psychological cul-de-sacs are fascinating, because we all struggle with our inability to overcome certain complexities or lingering griefs which impede us moving forward. Everything we want is on the other side of fear... but how to traverse that frontier to the proverbial ‘other side’ is never facile. And we can often spend a lifetime never really overcome the fear that keeps us rooted in bad habits, in situations we don’t want, or still lugging that extra ten kilos we know we should shed
