I’ve heard unbelievers say that if Jesus really was the Son of God then His sufferings must have been easier to bear. They think, why would someone with His power even subject themselves to such pain and agony? If you examine the Gospels, you will become aware of the incredible things that Jesus did and said to accomplish our great salvation. But today, I want to focus on what Jesus didn’t do that is just as vital to our salvation. Jesus didn’t demand His own will. He didn’t call down legions of angels to rescue Himself. He didn’t defend Himself or threaten His accusers. He didn’t save Himself. He didn’t come down from the cross. He didn’t stop loving and saving sinners. The fact that He could have done these things only intensified His agony and increased the temptation to use His power for His own advantage. But, He didn’t do any of it. Instead, He used His power for our benefit! Jesus suffered temptation the same as we do because He was human; the exception though is that He did not sin. He’s been where we are so He can sympathize with our weaknesses. He paid the ultimate sacrifice thus providing a way for us. We can approach His throne of grace boldly and obtain His help in time of need. Every temptation is an occasion for you to trust God. Whatever your need is today, he wants you to make full use of the privilege of approaching His throne.
