I’ve just got a couple of things to post today. First, here is a partial preview of my ad that will appear in Tuesday’s paper. As I promised, I’ve already begun working with the state leaders on behalf of Giles County. I opened a dialogue with them several months ago, and I’m ready to build on that, starting in September. Our County Executive needs to be knocking on doors in Nashville on a regular basis. For me, that’s just different doors to knock on. If you haven’t seen me or my cards, I’m still trying. It’s a big county with a lot of territory. Here’s why I may not get to your door – 29,000 people in the county divided by only 100 days means I would have to reach out to almost 300 people a day. Now, Sundays are off limits to me, so there go 15 days. Subtract rainy days, and another 10 go away. I do have bills to pay, so deduct about half of what’s left, and I would have to reach over 600 a day. I can’t quite do that. Even if I knew every voter’s address, and skipped those houses where no voters lived, the number is still over 400 a day. But here’s the thing. If you see my card, it means I knocked at your door. No one else. I want to serve you, and I want to see you. I could get a group to go hanging stuff on your door, but I chose not to do that. If you see one of my signs, then except for a handful that friends asked for, I placed the sign, not some lackey or committee. If I spent money, it was my family’s money. I have had 3 individuals contribute a total of less than $600 to my campaign. Two are retired and the third does not do business with the county. If you want to know their names, though, you’ll have to request them under the Freedom of Information Act, since I respect their privacy. All candidates have to file financial disclosures. Just do me a favor. If you ask for mine, ask for those of all three of us running for County Executive, so that you’ll know who owes favors to whom. I may have to have my three friends over for dinner, but they won’t be pressuring me to help them out with jobs, influence, party candidates or anything else. Check us all three out. I’m not making any accusations here; I just think the voters have a right to know who is backing which candidate. Don’t you? Remember, schools, jobs, and a drug-free county. Those are my top priorities. Lofty goals? You bet. Why aim low? Mediocrity is not my strong suit.
