I’ve never been heavily into my sports (I did however play rugby for six years and watch it on the TV every so often) and I certainly didn’t think for one second I would find a table-top sports game interesting, until I played Dreadball. As most of you will know, Dreadball is essentially Mantic’s answer to the Bloodbowl series produced by Game Workshop. It consists of 2 teams (soon to be more) facing off against each other on a pitch made up of hexes. Players move around the pitch trying to get the ball into zones where they can attempt to score points. Alternatively, you can walk around smashing the hell out of each other and even kill your opponent’s players! Can’t play if you don’t have players! After one game I have already bought my first team, the Forge Fathers, because I can see this game really taking off, especially with Leagues which we will look into soon at the club. The Game Plays fast and is easy enough to pick up. The teams seem to balance well against each other with some teams like the Orx being thugs that smash teams to bits, or Humans who have a balanced team capable of everything. If you would be interested in giving Dreadball a shot, we have 2 sets available to try out at our club and our own Mantic specialist Twiggy will happily talk you through it! So this week, why not give it a shot, you never know, you might even like it ;) Steve
