I’ve never been much for watching TV, especially hunting shows. - TopicsExpress

I’ve never been much for watching TV, especially hunting shows. Well today out of pure boredom I stopped on a hunting show. I realized in about 5 minutes why I don’t watch them. To start with WAY TOO many commercials, I realize there have to be commercials. I’ve been in this long enough to know it takes them to make putting on a show possible. Secondly, the guy is setting in a deer blind with a cover over his scope. Why would you need scope cover in a blind? Let me tell you something. I have hunted with a good number of hunters from 0 experience to very experienced. The number one reason for failure, is being unprepared. One thing I’ve noticed is that even experienced hunters don’t expect to see animals. I’ve really never understood this. Why go hunting if you don’t expect to see animals? While calling coyotes I’ve had hunters stare at the ground, nod off, lay their gun in their lap, and a number of other things. When an animal appears it is total chaos. Predator hunting is one of the fastest paced of the outdoor experience. If you hunt long enough you will be caught off guard by the unexpected. This is not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about stupid things, like leaning your gun against a tree, in the corner of a blind, in your lap, the gun unloaded, scope covers etc. If you are hunting mature animals such as a big ol buck, boar, bear etc. or something as weary as predators or turkeys you will have less than 5 seconds on average to acquire your target and make the shot. Be ready! Have your gun on whatever rest you plan to use, scope covers off and pay attention. A lot of beginners watch TV and read on the net to learn what to do and what not to do. For some guy trying to sell a scope cover by showing him take it off as a big buck appears. An action that will cause 90% of hunters to miss a shot of a lifetime, just hacks me off! You can ask anyone that has hunted with me, you’d better be ready! Sure there are slow times, but when it happens it’s usually very quick! Aint that right, Randy Pyle ? Sorry for the rant.
