I’ve seen alot of questions and misinformation lately regarding the H23vtec and H23a motors and thought I’d share some of my knowledge and expieriences I’ve gathered over the years. I’m very familiar with this setup so feel to ask any questions but please try to keep it H-series based as I don’t want to bring other “frankensteins” into this discussion. An H23vtec in its simplest form is essentially an H22 with a 95mm H23 crankshaft and rods. For this discussion I will mainly be focusing on what STOCK parts will interchange to get the simplest H23vtec recipe. If you are going with aftermarket or custom parts then you have a few more options but I’d rather start this thread out simple. Its not a difficult build or a ticking time bomb like some make it out to be. An engine is only as good as the person who built it! We will start with what block to use. Basically any OBD1 H series block is a perfect candidate. There are only a few differences between H series blocks over the years. 1) MOST IMPORTANT is the size of the crankshaft main journal bore and 2) open deck vs closed deck. Besides that when the block is stripped of all its componets they are identical.
