I’ve spent a significant amount of time working with some folks - TopicsExpress

I’ve spent a significant amount of time working with some folks in the grip of poverty. It’s not really that they lack for money. It’s that they want more than they can afford and that makes them unhappy…sometimes even angry. It makes them “poor in spirit”. It’s not that they don’t have homes or food or transportation. It’s that they demean what they have because there are bigger homes than their home and fancier cars than theirs. They spend way too much time looking through catalogues at toys they can’t afford. I spend most of my ministry time with them talking about the freedom of simplicity and thankfulness. The word is covet. I bought a Pontiac years ago that I hated. Well...I didnt really hate it but it was parked next to a Cadillac I loved. I couldnt enjoy what I could afford because I gave my heart to something that was beyond my reach. Ive shopped for a new motorcycle over five years. Now its parked in my garage and I go out everyday and wipe it down and sing songs to it. But Ive found myself online looking at other bikes and craning my neck as I go down the highway seeing what other folks are riding. Note to self...STOP SHOPPING!
