I’ve traveling throughout California, and yesterday did events with Kate Mara and Ian Somerhalder to call attention to the implementation of Prop 2 and other landmark farm animal protection laws. Critics are trying to tag egg price increases on these laws, but that thinking just doesn’t wash. There are plenty of explanations for recent increases in egg prices, including blatant opportunism by people involved in supplying or selling the eggs. It’s time for major food retailers to honor the letter and spirit of the state’s animal protection laws and stop purchasing any animal products that come from animals in cages.
