JACOB “SONNY” HENDERSON, 70, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, May 25, 2013 at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover, Kansas. Born on November 13, 1942 in Burden, Kansas, he was the son of Ralph F. and Neva (Stuber) Henderson. He was raised and received his education in Burden. Sonny was united in marriage to Edith (DeDe) Paris and to this union two children, Christina and Scotty, were born. The couple later divorced. He was united in marriage to Lois Weathers in Miami, Oklahoma and to this union two children, Shane and Kim, were born. The couple later divorced. In 1969, Sonny established Ranger Tree Service which he successfully owned and operated with his family He renovated and restored numerous old buildings in town including the Saint James Hotel. Sonny owned and operated Wagon Wheel Rodeo Company and he built the Cowley County Sports Arena. Sonny remained actively involved in his tree business until his health prevented him from working. He spent his last years with his companion, Janet Shorter. He loved spending time with his family and gardening. His family includes: His children: Debi Coon of Winfield, KS; Christina Brewer of Winfield, KS; Scotty Henderson of Deer Creek, OK; Tammy Askins and husband Todd of Winfield, KS; Kimberly Dutton and husband Brian of Winfield, KS: and Shane Henderson and wife Missi of Winfield, KS: His brother: Ralph Henderson of Winfield, KS; His sisters: Connie Andes of Winfield, KS; and Sarah Martin and husband Julian of Udall, KS; Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary Weathers and his brother, John Henderson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the funeral home and the family will greet friends during that time.
