#JALSecure an initiative of #WockhardtFoundation Jal- Secure Programme is one the initiatives of Wockhardt Foundation launched with the aim to ensure water security in the country, particularly for the welfare of the vulnerable, poor and socially backward communities. The programme, by and large embraces the mandate of ‘Water Security’, which is defined by UN-Water (2013) as “the capacity of a population to safeguard sustainable access to adequate quantities of acceptable quality water for sustaining livelihood, human wellbeing and socio-economic development for ensuring protection against water borne pollution and water related disasters, and for preserving ecosystems in a climate of peace and political stability. OBJECTIVE OF JAL-SECURE:- 1. Promotion of water conservation measures through advanced rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge technologies, their planning and implementation. 2. Promotion of Insitu water purification technologies for treatment of contaminated water. 3. Monitoring and surveillance of water quality of drinking water sources in rural areas through field testing kits installed in mobile Vans, with the objective of identifying ‘ hotspots areas’ for further interventions and remedial measures. 4. Organizing water awareness programmes, workshops, Conferences, capacity building programmes for educating the communities and other stakeholders on water related issues, including the conservation aspects. 5. Evolving guidelines/ models of ‘Best Practices’ of water management for industries. 6. Building partnership with Governments and professional organizations/ NGOs / agencies for knowledge sharing on sustainable water management. 7. Use of Atmospheric Water Generators for generation of water through air. 8. Research and Development. Technologies being promoted under JAL Secure Programme 1. Mobile water Quality testing laboratory Aim and Objective of Drinking water Quality Tests The main aim of water quality testing a) Assess the degree and geographic extent of the impact of atmospheric pollution, Exploitation of land, soil pollution etc. b) Collect information to evaluate the changes on humans caused by differing levels of exposure to chemicals after a certain exposure time. c) Identify the sources and loads of pollutants that are causing decline of water quality. How is water quality measured? Measure of contaminants and characteristics of water are used to indicate Quality of Water. Following categories are used as water quality indicators: • Biological: bacteria, • Physical: temperature, turbidity, dissolved solids • Chemical: PH, dissolved oxygen, nutrients (including nitrogen and phosphorus), organic and inorganic compounds like Fluoride, Residual Chlorine, Iron, Hardness, Chlorides, Ammonia, Arsenic and Alkalinity. Modular Rainwater harvesting technology • Modular rainwater harvesting systems can be installed in the buildings of large catchment (Schools, Hospitals) about 200 Sq.m. or more. • Water from Roof, Pavements and surrounding surface is collected. • The systems design can be customized depending on site conditions. • Installation: 2-3 days (including surveys). Atmospheric Water Generator Atmospheric Water Generator works by converting water vapor in the air into fresh and clean liquid water. Given a certain range of temperatures and humidity levels. a) Sky Water Scope Sky water is beneficial for areas with • Poor water quality of drinking water i.e. High water contamination. • Water scarce area • Ground water contamination due to Arsenic, Fluoride and other heavy metals contaminants. Jal-Secure In-Situ Purification Technologies At Jal-Secure we have “Bio-F Clear system” used specially for removal of Arsenic and Fluoride from ground water. Water Treatment Plant • “Bio-F Clear system” is best for removal of excess fluoride/Arsenic from your source water. • “Bio-F Clear system” is designed for removing fluoride/Arsenic from a total of 40000 LPD @ 5000 LPH. • The system works on absorption method. “Bio-F” is different and better as compared to conventional Activated Alumina method.
