JAMES-WELCH “Mrs. Matilda Welch, age 40, wife of Harry Welch of Montezuma, died at 11:45 o’clock, Thursday night of last week, in the Vermillion County Hospital, Clinton, following a major operation. Mrs. Welch was born January 15, 1897, in Hillsdale, daughter of Joseph and Alice James of Hillsdale. She was a graduate of Montezuma High School and spent her life in Parke and Vermillion counties. Besides her husband, surviving are five children: James W., Virginia, Martha, Allen, Alice, all at home; her mother, Mrs. Alice James of Hillsdale, a brother, Paul James of Newcastle; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Walker and Mrs. Frank Kuhns of Clinton and Mrs. J. W. Hilton of Kincaid, Ill. Funeral services were held at the residence in Montezuma at 2 o’clock, Sunday afternoon. Burial was made in the Montezuma cemetery.” Rockville Republican 2-18-1937
