JAMMIT 26 25thJuly 2013 Woodford Bowls Club has been hosting Jammit since its inception in May 2011. I know this because I checked the Jammit Facebook page which has pics for every night since it started. It’s fair to say the number and variety of performers has increased and so has the audience, and it’s not unusual to see the Bowls Club catering to a full house on Thursday nights .. and it’s not just the locals. They come from near and far, like moths to a music flame. In fact the famous Lucky Starr song (with minor adaptation and apologies to Lucky Starr in advance) provides an apt musical metaphor .. all together now “ They come from everywhere man, talent and skills to spare man, music and songs to share man, they come from everywhere .. Toogoolawah, Mooloolaba, Elimbah, and Tanawha .. Sandy Creek, Stoney Creek, Delaneys Creek, and D’Aigular .. Mt Mee, Bribie Island, Deception Bay and Rangeview too .. Kilcoy, Wamuran, and Woongooroo to name a few’ .. phew, well you get the general idea. Speaking of Jammit generals, three of them were ‘in absentia’ last Thursday. John in China, Kev Brand in Sydney (or so I was told) and Norm Smith went home crook after helping to set up. I think it’s fair to say the night was a bit different with so many missing from the core group, and we missed the usual Jammit banter. But as they say, the show must go on and so it did, with Jeffff, Greg, Paul and Ernie taking on core group duties supported by Peter, Chayne, Steve and Nic. Even Stephen blew in and out briefly. Mary Poppins (aka Martin) gave another delightful performance in spite of losing her capo, and an unshaven John Clarke gave a moving rendition of ‘I’m Just a Lonely Boy’ .. obviously missing wife Judy who is away with mum on a cruise. I tried a few Bee Gees songs for the first time (eat your heart out Barry Gibb) and a Chubby Checker song with a twist. Maybe we should have invited Kevin Rudd. He’s obviously an accomplished poll dancer, and maybe could have demonstrated the Gonski shuffle to the tune of ‘Welcome Back Kotter’ for the benefit of Jammit’s ex-teachers. Cheers Mike John
