JANUARY 23, 2015 From the Prayer Closet: Looking outside the box, or should I say Prayer Closet walls? Putting our hands around, or attempting to put our minds around, God’s care for humanity awakens in us the need for mercy and grace. Attempting to understand these ideas is important for those of us who pray, is because we cannot pray and dispense that which is not real in our own lives. As pray-ers, we understand that we are praying not because of our advanced enlightenment, or academic achievement, or the holy state within which we live (Don’t I wish). Rather, it is God’s mercy and grace that allow us to experience a higher form of love than our feeble minds can completely understand. But we are sure that it is that love that continuously challenges us to pray for, support, and care about you day by day. Amen. Scripture: “I will listen to you, LORD God, because you promise peace to those who are faithful and no longer foolish. You are ready to rescue everyone who worships you, so that you will live with us in all of your glory. Love and loyalty will come together; goodness and peace will unite. Loyalty will sprout from the ground; justice will look down from the sky above.” (Psalm 85:8-11, CEV) Pray-ers Note: Across the northern hemisphere, farmers are closely looking at the seeds they will be sowing in the next few months. The bottom line is that they want the greatest yields that they can get from the seeds in which they invest. Genetics are important both in their production and in the marketplace. Can farmers plant crops that no one wants? Definitely. And can they stay in business long? No. They can only plant crops for so long that no one wants, and then they walk away from the farm frustrated, angry, and broke. Sharing God’s mercy and the assurance of a loving God’s desire to dispense grace and salvation are “hot” items in the world. Freely giving away God’s love opens countless doors. That is why my prayer list gets bigger and bigger.
