JANUARY 3 Daily Might “Heaven and earth will pass away, but God’s words will by no means pass away” (Matthew 24:35). In especially trying times, we need to live more in the Word. We must put our faith in the Word. Then it wouldn’t matter if everybody in the whole world lost faith, or the whole world went haywire, or the heavens and earth passed away. We will keep going for God as long as our faith is in the Word. No matter what happens, we will still stand if our feet are planted on the firm foundation of God’s Word. I can fail, you can fail, the whole world can fail, but God’s Word will never fail! Often if it weren’t for that tiny spark of faith, we would just flicker out. But when we tank up on God’s Word, we get re-inspired. God blows on our little ember of faith and brings it back to life again. It comes so much through taking in the Word. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). His Word is always an encouragement, even when everything seems to be going wrong. The Bible stands though the hills may tumble, It will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble; I will plant my feet on its firm foundation, For the Bible stands. —Haldor Lillenas (1885-195 January 3 Daily Praise Jesus, I thank You so much that You understand me and love me. I thank You that even when I don’t know what to say to express my love and thanks to You, You understand and You have compassion and mercy. Your mercy is so great, it is incomprehensible, it is indescribable, and it is renewed for me every morning. Every day is a new day. You don’t remember my past sins; You don’t remember the things that I’ve done wrong. You make every morning new, every day fresh, so that I can start over again and continue to love You. I thank You that I don’t have to be worried about what I have done in the past—the times I’ve erred and strayed and haven’t loved You like I should. Thank You that You forgive, and that I can just do my best today and love You with all of my heart. Thank You that You make it so easy for me and that I can simply take it one day at a time. I don’t even have to worry about the whole day; I can take it one minute at a time. January 3 Words From Jesus Imagine that there is a scale before you. I took My Own Son, the One who is dearest to Me, and I laid Him on one side of the scale. It tipped so far to that side! Then I took you, with all your weaknesses and your shortcomings, your problems and your idiosyncrasies, and all the things about yourself that bother you so much and that you think make you of so little value and so hard to love and not worthy of My love, and I put you—just you—on the other side of the scale. And the scale was perfectly balanced. I saw that it was a good trade, to put My Son on one side, and you-just you-on the other side. I saw that it was worth it to trade the life of My Son for you, that I might have you forever. It was worth it to give My Son just for you. This is how great My love is for you. January 3 Quote of the Day We are given a fresh start not only at the beginning of the year, but every morning when we wake up. We have the chance to start anew and make things right.
