JAZZ ON A SUMMERS EVENING Last Sunday saw the 7th celebration - TopicsExpress

JAZZ ON A SUMMERS EVENING Last Sunday saw the 7th celebration concert of Jazz at Bradfield College. We broke several records this year: a huge marquee, the biggest ever audience, the largest numbers of pupils taking part, and the most money raised for charity (over £4000.) The pupils performed exceptionally well, with so many highlights that only a few can be picked out: debuts from several singers including Charlotte Renals (Fifth Form, Stevens House) with her wonderful version of an Amy Winehouse song and Sophie Spooner (Upper Sixth, Stanley House) with a rendition of “All I could do was cry” by Etta James. Seasoned performers were also on show: Louisa Gray featured both as a solo and in the wonderful vocal group “Bradfield Voices”, and some excellent ensemble performances from the Blues Club, the Jazz Band, the Barbershop Boys and the splendidly entitled “Luminescent Catfish” – a pupil group who played a tremendous version of “Jonny B. Goode”. The Staff Band were also prevailed upon to perform and brought the first half to a riotous conclusion with the appropriately titled “Let the Good Times Roll”…! Also great to see were some Old Bradfieldians: Josh Jones (G House, 2008 – 2013) and Seb Watts (F House, 2008 - 2013), and above all Alex Chadwick (A House, 2004 – 2009) who is now a graduate in jazz saxophone and has attended all seven concerts over the years! The magic of hearing and seeing talented pupils playing and enjoying music does not lessen over the years – quite the reverse, in fact, and we look forward to next summer with eager anticipation already!
