JENNA UPDATE: Ophthalmologist confirmed pediatricians suspected - TopicsExpress

JENNA UPDATE: Ophthalmologist confirmed pediatricians suspected diagnosis of 6th nerve palsy.... attributing it most likely to a fall at skating lessons 2 weeks prior to onset of cross eye; but also could be from her viral cold/sinus congestion over past 2 months..... expected to resolve on its own with no treatment, patching, etc. I am hoping it is a viral cause, prognosis appears better. He said it may take 2-3 months to return to normal. ONLINE DEFINITION: Sixth nerve palsy: A nerve disorder where the cranial nerve VI doesnt function properly and hence the eye cant look outwards towards the ears. The nerve impairment can result from ear infections, certain viral infections or other disorders. Sixth nerve palsy has been known to resolve on its own, without treatment. When resulting from a viral infection, sixth nerve palsy usually resolves on its own. When resulting from trauma, especially in children, sixth nerve palsy may not heal completely on its own. Improvement and recovery from sixth nerve palsy often take place during the first sixth months after onset. Thanks for everyones concerns and thoughts through all this, its been a stressful and LONG week+. , but hoping doctor is right and it resolves completely on its own :)
