JENNY JUMP: At the moment, we are staying with family whose home - TopicsExpress

JENNY JUMP: At the moment, we are staying with family whose home is located but a few miles from a magnificent expanse of wooded hills known as Jenny Jump State Forest. Dramatic as this immense forest may be, it is further embellished by some of the huge boulders through which our trail wandered. Geologists say these rocks date back over 1.6 billion years, making them some of the world’s oldest. Many of the boulders, then, are of volcanic origin; but not all. The last chapter explains that glaciers moved through here just 21,000 years ago giving birth to Great Meadows and to the Pequest River. Online research also tells us that the park was named after a girl named Jenny, who jumped to her death from what is now known as Jenny Jump Mountain. Though the park features lots of history and natural history, once again, during this trip east, it has been the vegetation that has riveted our attention. Everywhere we looked reds, yellows and oranges dramatized the already spectacular vistas back dropped by the Kittatinny Mountains. And, so, although Jenny Jump State Forest offers a perpetual feast for the eyes, it was all these features that combined to create a particularly wonderful setting for the hike Janie and I made two days ago with her daughter Katie and her grandson Kory. As a young man Kory had energy to burn, and we found him running up and down huge trees downed just two years ago. Katie reminded us that hundred-mile an hour winds associated with Hurricane Sandy not only knocked down hundreds of huge trees but that it also left her family without power for two weeks. And now our three week long trip is winding down and tomorrow we’ll be driving to Albany to catch a plane Saturday that will return us home to Montana. It’s been a great visit and we hope to see everyone again soon. QUESTION: Does any one know what kind of berries these are? I dont think we have them in Montana.
