JERRY BARRICAN passed on peacefully around six this Sunday morning in the grace of God. (Message from Arno, relayed through Nonoy & Jun.) Jerry was one professor I really liked for the way he not only taught but mentored. He had a fresh and youthful way of teaching that didnt intimidate but teased into learning, urged individual but disciplined thought and urged, not merely encouraged, independent research. I always came away from his classes convinced that he was less interested in whether you agreed with the law, or with how the Court may have ruled, than in how finely you followed logical method and how sharply you defined your premises. He made logical thought routine and reason exciting. Jerry taught me something I never forgot: Always seek what makes the law human within and beyond its confines. The law is not there for itself no matter how grand ones designs may be. Its grandness rests not only in how well it is served, but in how it grandly serves the public weal. Always. Rest and have peace, my friend. You taught me well.
