JERRY YOU WILL BE MISSED! RIP Jerry Hall - July 8, 1946 to February 2, 2014. Celebrated producer, engineer and label owner Jerry Hall passed away recently at a nursing home after being in a coma-like state for months after injuries from a brutal assault in Virginia. Known by many to be the consummate blues producer and engineer, Jerry got his start at Motown Records. He and James Harman met in 1971 and became famous friends and collaborators. It seems like the impact of Jerrys blues work was first felt with James 1988 release of Extra Napkins. People listened to Extra Napkins in awe as a standard was set for recording new records with a vintage sound. Many Jerry Hall releases followed; more by James Harman plus releases from Kid Ramos, Lynwood Slim, Janiva Magness, Teddy Morgan, Lee McBee, Kim Wilson, Gary Primich, Johnny Moeller, Big Al Dupree, Pat Boyack, Mighty Blue Kings, Little Charlie & The Nightcats, Rusty Zinn, B.B. & The Blues Shacks, Nathan James, Franck Goldwasser, and others! He also formed the Pacific Blues label in the late 1990s, which released a series of amazing titles (click here to see). Perhaps the last project of Jerrys was the 2010 release of Terry Garland & Lil Ronnie / Live At the Canal Club. Later that year he was brutalized and never recovered from severe head trauma. Jerrys great work will remain with us forever and regret that his efforts were tragically cut short.
