JERUSALEM’S EASTERN GATE HAS BEEN CLOSED - MESSIAH TO COME AND OPEN IT Follow me on Facebook. All my articles can be found there.facebook/people/@/michael.clinton.148 According to the Bible; the Messiah would come, go through the Eastern Gate, present Himself officially as King, be rejected by the Jews, the Eastern Gate would then be closed until he returns and is accepted by the Jews. This Eastern Gate is closed today and has been for over a thousand years despite several attempts to reopen it. There are eight major gates to the Old City. The first and most important one is the Golden Gate, or the Eastern Gate, the only external gate that gives access to the Temple Mount. I will provide an excellent video on this subject at the end of the article. THIS IS THE REMARKABLE STORY OF THIS GATE. God gave Ezekiel a supernatural vision of this gate. 43:1 “Afterward he brought me to the gate, the gate that faces toward the east. And behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east“. 43:4; “And the glory of the Lord came into the temple by the way of the gate which faces toward the east.“ Ezekiel 44:1-3 “Then He brought me back to the outer gate which faces toward the east, but it was shut. And the Lord said to me, This gate shall be shut; it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter by it, because the Lord God of Israel has entered by it; therefore it shall be shut. THE LORD JESUS CAME THROUGH THIS GATE IN HIS TRIUMPHAL ENTRY ON PALM SUNDAY, TO PRESENT HIMSELF AS KING. Matthew 21 1-5 “Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me.And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.’” DANIEL HAD PREDICTED THE VERY DAY THIS WOULD HAPPEN. NOW READ CLOSELY. Daniel 9:25 “Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times. Sixty nine weeks is the Jewish way of saying 483 years. According to this prophecy, a decree would be issued that would allow the Jews to rebuild the wall. Several decrees were issued concerning the rebuilding of Jerusalem after the captivity but only one concerned the wall. This decree was issued by Artaxerxes and is one of the best known dates in history. Sir Robert Anderson and Dr. Harold Hoehne have meticulously worked out this prophecy and both conclude that it was fulfilled on the very day Jesus entered Jerusalem, through the Eastern Gate, in His Triumphal Entry, 483 years, to the day, after the decree was made. NOW WATCH WHAT THE LORD TOLD THE JEWS WHO REJECTED HIM “And when He approached, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. … . because you did not recognize the time of your visitation “ (Luke 19:41-42, 44). If they had only kept up with the days predicted by Daniel they would have known that this was the very day of its fulfillment. Jesus, having entered the city, said that he would not be seen again until Jerusalem acknowledges him (Matthew 23:37-39). THE EASTERN GATE CLOSED UP. The walls and gates of Jerusalem have been torn down and rebuilt several times. When they were rebuilt, they were rebuilt on the same spots. The Eastern Gate is the oldest of all the gates to the city and was the only one not rebuilt by Suleiman the Magnificent in AD 1539-42. Monolithic stones in the wall just above ground have been identified as 6th Century BC masonry from the time of Nehemiah, (Biblical Archeological Review [BAR], Mar/Apr 1992, p40). Proof that the Easter Gate is built on the very spot it has always been was found In the year 1969 when Jerusalem archeologist James Fleming was investigating the Eastern wall of the Temple where a Muslim cemetery has long been located. It had rained heavily the night before and the ground remained soggy the next day. As he investigated the area immediately in front of the Golden Gate, the ground beneath his feet gave way and he dropped into a hole about eight feet deep. Fleming found himself “knee-deep in bones” and became suddenly aware he had fallen into a mass burial site. To him, the most amazing aspect of this incident was his clear view of five large wedge-shaped stones set into a massive arch. It appeared he had discovered an ancient gate under the present Golden Gate: “Then I noticed with astonishment that on the eastern face of the turret wall, directly beneath the Golden Gate itself, were five wedge-shaped stones neatly set in a massive arch spanning the turret wall. Here were the remains of an earlier gate to Jerusalem, below the Golden Gate, one that apparently had never been fully documented.” (BAR, Jan./Feb. 1983, p30) ATTEMPTS TO OPEN In the Six Day War, some members of the Jewish military suggested catching the Jordanian defenders of the city off guard by blowing open the sealed Eastern Gate. But the leader of the group, an Orthodox Jew, had vehemently protested the idea, stating that “the Eastern Gate can be opened only when the Messiah comes.” In 1917 Muslim leaders in control of Jerusalem tried and failed to break the prophecy and open the gate. On the exact day the workmen were preparing to demolish the ancient stone, the hand of God intervened and the city of Jerusalem passed out of Muslim control into the hands of the British. WHY IT WAS CLOSED UP. Jewish rabbis describe the Messiah as a great military leader who would be sent by God from the east. He would enter the Eastern Gate and liberate the city from foreign control. . To prevent this, the Muslims sealed the gate and put a Muslim cemetery in front of it believing that a holy man would not defile himself by walking through a Muslim cemetary.Little did they know, they were fulfilling prophecy by doing this. WHEN JESUS RETURNS HE WILL GO THROUGH THIS GATE AGAIN. Acts 1:10-12 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, Zechariah 14: 3 & 4; “Then the Lord will go forth And fight against those, nations, As He fights in the day of battle. And on that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south.” Now, when did “The Lord” God have feet? The Mount of Olives which faces the Eastern Gate, and it will be opened by his coming. In Isaiah 61 we are told that He will come from the east, and in Zechariah 14 we are told that he will touch ground on the Mount of Olives. The eastern gate holds a special holiness for Jews, who believe that the Sheckinah or Divine Presence used to appear through this gate and will appear again. In the meantime it is believed it must be left untouched Some today are suggesting that this gate should be reopened to provide greater access to the Temple Mount for pilgrims. Let’s see how far they will get with their plans. So, it appears that the Eastern Gate will remain closed and when the Lord returns this Psalm will be fulfilled: Psalm 24:7 says, “Lift up your heads, O gates, and be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in! Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.”
