JESSE McCARTNEY This next artist is one that has made a splash in both the singing and songwriting aspects of the music industry. Jesse McCartney hails from New York and got his start in the entertainment industry early on in 1999 when he joined the boy band Dream Street. Although the band separated in 2002 with no hit songs to their repertoire, they did have their debut album go Gold. At fifteen, McCartney branched off from the band and later released his first solo album in 2004 entitled “Beautiful Soul.” This album went on to go Platinum and gave delivery to the same-title summer track. The album reached its peak at #15 on the charts and has sold over 1.5 million copies at this point. Later that next year, McCartney toured the US and Europe where he opened for the Backstreet Boys. In 2006, he released his second album “Right Where You Want Me.” The album one-upped the previous and landed at #14 on the Billboard top 200. Although the album had relatively no success sales wise, it still managed to produce a few radio hits. Later on in 2007, McCartney took his songwriting abilities and co-wrote, along with Ryan Tedder, the biggest hit of the year, “Bleeding Love” which was sung by Leona Lewis. Not only was this the song of the year on the airwaves, McCartney was nominated for a grammy, along with Tedder, for Record of the Year honors. After his songwriting success, in 2008, McCartney released his third album titled “Departure.” Realizing his youth was no longer an advantage, McCartney recorded more mature hits on this album and it was a hit with critics and reached #14 on Billboard. This successful LP released hits such as “Leavin”, “How Do You Sleep”, It’s Over”, and “Body Language.” This album earned him a spot on tour with American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. After this tour, McCartney re-released “Departure” and threw a few extra songs on it, such as “Body Language” and did damage on the airwaves, charting 3 of 4 studio releases. More recently, in 2013, McCartney in en route to releasing his fourth studio album titled “Have It All.” This album has been delayed for over 3 years due to other engagements and label quarrels along the way. However, McCartney is bound for some success, as he gears up for a tour with old tourmates, the Backstreet Boys. McCartney is a very successful artist and I guarantee we have not heard the last of him yet. He was the rare occasion when a Disney artist kept his swag and went on to have a relatively successful career to date. He will continue to work behind the scenes writing for other artists, but I cannot wait for the long anticipated release of his fourth album. Lastly, I will be attending his concert with the Backstreet Boys in August and I am sure, it will be one of the best yet!
