JESUS SET THE CAPTIVES FREE (For those who have ears) There is some debate from church leaders today on what really happened when Jesus gave up His Spirit and died on the cross. My intentions with this article is to set the record straight and give my brothers and sisters some ammunition against a false teaching that is invading the church. What I want to expose here is the belief that Jesus, after He died, went to hell like a sinner and suffered the torture of demons and separation from the Father. That did not occur at all! Some even preach that Jesus needed to be born again like He was a mere man who was blessed and not God in the flesh. Many popular preachers are teaching this to their congregations today fulfilling the verse: 2 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words. 2 Peter 2 These false teachers deny the true divinity of Jesus. They are giving more credit and power to Satan that is due and further more they are doing it for their own profit. I believe false teachings like this are like a skin cancer. When left unchecked a small blemish can cause a deadly issue. A little leaven really does leaven the whole lump. Always be on the look out for wolves in sheep clothing. They are not easily identified because they look and sound just like a sheep. But if we receive our truth from God and not men we can identify them by their fruit. So what really happened when Jesus said, It is finished, and gave up His Spirit? 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 1 Cor 2 The final mission Jesus had was to die as the last and final sacrificial lamb for all of mans sins. It was the plan from the beginning and it was a mystery that only the Father and Son knew about until it was completed. No angel in heaven or fallen angel here on earth understood what was going to happen. Satan believed if he could influence sinful men, out of their own freewill, to reject and kill the messiah he would win and man would have sealed his own fate. Satan influenced the people to reject Christ and accept the release of a murderer while crying out, crucify him. The demons actually thought they had won at that time. But as it is written, if they had known what was about to happen they would have never killed him. When Satan is plotting against God his plans will always blow up in his face. God is greater! 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, 52 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many. Matt 27 Notice that at the moment of His death, right after, He said, It is finished. The veil was ripped completely in half. The separation from man and God was now restored. Jesus just defeated sin for us all. He descended into hell as a champion and made a mockery of the demonic entities who were celebrating his death. I wonder if the great earthquake that shook the earth was symbolic of him kicking the gates of hell open and the bodies of the saints who were raised being symbolic of Gods children being let out for good. He then stripped the keys of death and hell from Satan who once had power over men. Jesus told Satan, Not only have I won the victory over hell and death but Im going to give the same power over it to all who believe in me. At that moment Satan knew he was defeated and it was a matter of time before his final judgement was going to come. 8 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 1 Peter 3 Jesus then preached the good news. The same gospel that changed our lives to those who were bound by death. He gave them all the opportunity to be set free just like He has given all of us. Can you imagine the great celebration there was in heaven when Jesus the ascended into heaven with all of the Fathers children with Him? I cant wait to find out all the details. Jesus never had to suffer hell because hell was never meant for men. Jesus fulfilled every requirement for us so we would never have to face it either. What happened at the moment of His death is spelled-V-I-C-T-O-R-Y. Dont ever let anyone tell you different. The greatest act of love there will ever be should be remembered every day of our lives. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
