JETS REPORT: Why is the Jets home record not so great: The Jets try to be too entertaining on home ice. This is the common explanation, that teams try to make the pretty play at home, while playing more simple, or ugly, on the road. “I haven’t felt from behind the bench a big difference... or any kind of difference,” Paul Maurice said after Monday’s loss. There are more distractions at home. Some players find it easier to focus on the road, where they can just be hockey players — not dads, husbands or homeowners. Jim Slater “You just go to dinner, you come (to the hotel), you sleep, you prepare for the game. There aren’t other distractions. But being a professional you have to find a way to do that at home, too.” The Jets feel more pressure to win at home. Frolik says “You get the feeling maybe on the road we play a little bit looser, and over here we know we have to win, we maybe hold the stick a little bit tighter.” The Jets feel things are going to come easier at home. Maybe their underdog, “us-against-them” mentality serves itself better in enemy territory. “We just wouldn’t notice it; it wouldn’t bother you,” the coach said. “You don’t care about the shot clock on the road, you don’t care about anything.” Bottom line: if the Jets’ home record was just equal to their road record, they’d be in third place in their division with 52 points, well up on the playoff scramblers. #HutchtheClutch
