JK to host National Snowboarding championship Srinagar, Sep 18: The Annual General Meeting of Winter Games Federation of India was held on Sunday in Chandigarh. In the representatives from Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Utter Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Delhi, Indian Navy, Air Force, Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering, Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, and GMVN Auli etc were present in the meeting. From J&K Shabir Ahmad Wani and Muhammad Yusuf, General Secretary and Treasurer respectively of Winter Games Association of J&K took part. Among other Brig. SS Patwal (Rtd), Roshan Lal Thakur, Wg Commdr Deepak Ahluwalia, SS Pangte IAS (Rtd), RC Negi, and Col Dhillon also took part. In the daylong meeting various issues related to the development of winter sports in India were taken up. Meeting stressed the need of holding FIS races at Gulmarg for which natural facilities are available here and thus pave way for holding other international events sporting here. The meeting also adopted the previous minutes of the meeting. While framing the Calendar of activities for the year 2013/14 the Federation allotted the National Junior and Senior Snowboarding Championships to Jammu and Kashmir state. National Senior Alpine Ski Championship was allotted to Himachal Pradesh and National Junior Alpine Ski Championship was allotted to Uttrakhand. The Cross-Country Junior and Senior Championships are still vacant. The President WGAJK Farooq Shah expressed his satisfaction for the deliberations that took place in the AGM. He expressed his joy for allotting the Snowboarding events to his Association. He informed that it is first time in the history of winter sports of the country that the Junior Snowboarding championship is being organized. Snowboarding was in fact introduced by our state at national level championship long before but now time has come when we are introducing this thrilling and fascinating sport among the children of the country. Farooq further said that we will host the event satisfactorily and to the best expectations of our budding youth with our own resources. The championships will be held in first week of February. Prior to that the Association would organize coaching camps and state championships and select the balanced state team
