JLS) Of course conservatives would hate Mr. Rogers. They hate the people over at “Sesame Street” for the same reasons. Even though so many of them cling to the teachings of a man who taught unconditional love to the people he was trying to convince had intrinsic worth as human beings, they don’t see the modern day incarnations of that philosophy as being congruent to their religious texts. That’s because their religious texts were hijacked for an extreme right-wing ideology in the early eighties. There’s nothing sinister or evil about a kind and loving man telling a generation of kids that their emotions and feelings are important, at least not if you’re of the opinion that feelings and emotions aren’t bad just because they’re intense and make us nervous.
