JNN News Update August 1st 2014 JNN NEWS, P.O. Box 7411, Jerusalem 91073, Israel “Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God.” Ps 146: 3, 5 IDF: HAMAS USES CEASE-FIRE TO KIDNAP SOLDIER, CEASEFIRE OVER: The latest attempt at an Israel-Hamascease-fire disintegrated Friday, after the capture of an Israeli soldier and killing of two others. The soldier was abducted by Palestinian terrorists during an attack in Gaza in which two other Israeli soldiers died. The Israel Defense Forces identified the abducted soldier as 2nd Lt. Hadar Goldin. According to a military spokesperson, terrorists appeared while forces were searching for tunnels, one of them then blew himself up during which time others kidnapped the solider. The lull was first broken by terror factions in Gaza who carried out enemy fire at Israel at roughly 10 am Friday morning. The IDF said Friday that a Gaza ceasefire that went into effect earlier in the day had ended and military operations were in progress on the ground. Hopes for an announced 72-hour humanitarian cease-fire between Israel and Hamas lasted about 90 minutes. An official in PM Benjamin Netanyahus office said Hamas and other armed groups in the Gaza Strip had flagrantly violated the ceasefire. At least four short humanitarian cease-fires have been announced since the conflict began, but Hamas terrorist have broken each one within a few hours by renewed fighting. Israeli forces launched a major manhunt in southern Gaza on Friday to search for the missing soldier. (Ynet) Pray for a much needed miracle to bring back this missing young soldier, Hadar Goldin, to his family, to his comrades and to his country. NETANYAHU TO KERRY: HAMAS BEARS RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONSEQUENCES FOR ITS ACTIONS: PM Netanyahu told US Secretary of State John Kerry Friday afternoon that Israel would take “all necessary measures” against those calling for its destruction and using terror against its citizens. Netanyahus conversation with Kerry came just hours after two IDF soldiers were killed, and one feared abducted, during an attack that took place an hour after the US and UN brokered cease-fire went into effect. Netanyahu said the terrorist organizations in Gaza would bear responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Netanyahu called the attack a flagrant violation of the US and UN-brokered cease-fire arrangement. Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, representing the left-flank of the eight-person security cabinet, said the IDF was justifiably now operating on the ground “with the full backing of us all.” She added that “Hamas has paid, and will yet pay a heavy price. If it was not yet clear enough to everyone, now the world knows who is responsible for the destruction and blood in Gaza.” (J. Post) WHITE HOUSE CONDEMNS ‘BARBARIC’ BREACH OF TRUCE BY HAMAS: The White House has condemned an attack by Hamas terrorists on IDF forces, in which two soldiers were killed and another feared abducted, as a barbaric violation of a humanitarian ceasefire which began Friday morning. The White Houses Deputy National Security Adviser Tony Blinked called on world leaders to join condemnations of Hamas actions. This is an outrageous action and we look to the rest of the world to join us in condemning it, he told MSNBC television. The ceasefire was a joint US-UN initiative aimed at giving civilians a much needed reprieve, a top US diplomat had said. Following the attack Israeli PM Netanyahu called US Secretary of State John Kerry to confirm that despite his joint statement with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, according to which assurances had been received from Hamas and the other terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip regarding a ceasefire from 08:00 this morning, the Palestinians had unilaterally and grossly violated the humanitarian ceasefire and attacked our soldiers after 09:00. Unsurprisingly, talks to discuss a long-term ceasefire have been suspended following the ceasefire breach. Meanwhile, Israeli daily Ha’aretz has speculated the US is now in race to divert Israel from all-out war on Hamas: “The administration’s public outrage at suspected capture of Hadar Goldin gives Israel new leeway but is also meant to avert a go-it-alone mentality,” news sources said. (Israel National News/Ha’aretz) NO END IN SIGHT TO GAZA ROCKET ATTACKS: PLEASE ENABLE US TO STOCK ISRAEL’S SHELTERS AND SHIELD THE POOR: As part of our humanitarian aid programs Vision for Israel regularly assists victims of terror, but with Hamas in the Gaza Strip determined to cause as much damage as possible, the losses are mounting by the hour. We must be equipped to do more. There is a spiraling wave of deaths, physical injuries, displaced families, increasing numbers of shock victims, property damage, and schools and places of business closed. According to an estimate by Psagot investments, the operation is well on its way to costing the tourism industry over one billion dollars. SENATE APPROVES FUNDING FOR ISRAEL’S IRON DOME DEFENSE SYSTEM: The Senate on Friday rushed through a $225 million bill to replenish Israels missile defense system, and House approval was expected in the final hours before lawmakers began a summer break. The money will go to restocking Israels Iron Dome, which has been credited with shooting down dozens of incoming rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists over three and a half weeks of war. The vote came two days after the Pentagon announced ammunition deliveries to the Jewish state and as a planned 72-hour cease-fire between Israel and Hamas unraveled almost as quickly as it began.
